Transplantation of donor bone marrow stem cells has begun in Uzbekistan

According to the Ministry of Health, in the republic the number of patients suffering from diseases of the blood and hematopoietic system is increasing every year. TASHKENT, January 20 – Sputnik. In Uzbekistan, the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Hematology has begun transplanting donor bone marrow stem cells, the Ministry of Health reports. This is the country's leading medical institution in providing hematological and transfusion support to such patients, early diagnosis, prevention and effective treatment of relevant diseases. For the first time in history, they began to carry out the procedure of allogeneic transplantation, that is, transplantation of bone marrow stem cells obtained from a donor. In the future, it is planned to perform it on 100 patients a year, the report says.

Previously, samples taken from patients were sent abroad. Currently, all such checks are carried out by qualified employees of the center. There is already a transplant department here. To date, 98 patients with myeloma and lymphoma have received autologous stem cell transplantation. After the procedure, 70% of patients experienced a decrease in pain and an improvement in quality of life.
